SYNOPSIS
Mary Two-Axe Earley: "I Am Indian Again" tells the powerful story of a leading Canadian women's rights advocate, Mary Two-Axe Earley. For over 20 years, Mary fought against gender discrimination against First Nations women, particularly in the Canadian government's Indian Act. Using never-before-seen archival footage, Mohawk filmmaker Courtney Montour establishes a deep and personal dialogue with this committed woman, now deceased. Her film is a vibrant tribute to the woman who dared to denounce the sexist and genocidal policies of a government that deprived First Nations women and their children of their Indian status if they married a non-Indian.
