A major project :

For over 16 years, Funambules Médias has been running the Cinéma sous les étoiles project, a unique event that offers between 40 and 60 free screenings of Québec and international documentaries to the public every summer. Each year, nearly 8,000 people gather in Montréal's parks and public spaces for these welcoming and socially engaged screenings.

Cinéma sous les étoiles is much more than entertainment: it's a space where cinema, reflection, and society meet. We build strong ties with artists, festivals, and institutions, as well as with community and academic circles.

Since 2022, with the launch of Cinéma à la carte, our annual programming has expanded to more than 150 screenings in theatres, film clubs, schools, and community and marginalized settings.

Our mission is clear : to foster access to documentary film, critical thinking, and social cohesion.

The impact of Funambules Médias on society:

In a world saturated with images, we believe more than ever in the power of documentary cinema to raise awareness, build connections, and fuel essential debates. With Cinéma sous les étoiles, the largest outdoor documentary screening festival in Canada, Funambules Médias offers a socially engaged, accessible, and free program every summer, in the heart of parks in Montréal and beyond.

We support emerging talent, showcase the work of documentary filmmakers from Québec and around the world, and build bridges between artists, citizens, researchers, NGOs, and activists. Our welcoming screenings become spaces for meeting, reflection, and sometimes even… picnics or love at first sight!

Rooted in Montréal's documentary ecosystem, our work, though often invisible, helps sustain a culture of proximity, beyond partisan divides, in a Québec marked by deep social and democratic tensions.
