In the mid-90s, Carl Leblanc founded Ad Hoc Films. With his friend and colleague Luc Cyr, he produced and/or directed some fifteen documentaries, including "Canada by night" (Gémeaux award for best documentary in 1999), "Le coeur d'Auschwitz" (finalist at the 2011 Jutra awards) and two documentary series, including "La boîte noire" (Gémeaux award for best direction and best original score in 2003). For more than ten years, he has alternated between documentary ("Nation : huis-clos" with Lucien Bouchard and "Le commun des mortels") and writing ("Le personnage secondaire", "Artéfact", "Fruits"). "Perdre Mario" is his fourth feature-length documentary.

By committing one of the 1,200 suicides that took place in Quebec that year, Mario plunged his friends and loved ones into a whirlwind of questions and deep sadness, the same one that assails anyone brutally left in mourning by a voluntary and irrevocable departure.
