The part of sky

Grey seals migrate, guided by light and currents, stirring in us poetry, mystery, gentleness, and the deep beauty of nature.

SYNOPSIS

Grey seals travel with a sensitivity to the elements around them. Guided by currents, light and other mysterious connections, they take us with them on their strange and fascinating migrations, where the boundary between the sky and the blue water of the ocean does not exist. As we gaze into their dark eyes and into the infinity of the sky, we may find a little gentleness, poetry and magic.

SEE COMPLETE PROFILE

After working as a specialized educator within child protection organizations, Emeline Lefebvre returned to her studies in 2022 to join the wildlife, environment, and nature documentary filmmaking program at IFFCAM, which she pursued until 2024. In 2023, she directed Edge Beings, her first short documentary film, exploring the relationship between humans and foxes, portrayed through the bond between a farmer and his granddaughter. The red fox — both free and fragile — becomes a symbol of the constraints our society imposes on the species. Her second short film, The Part of Sky, completed as her graduation project and filmed in Brittany, delves into the sensitivity of grey seals and their mysterious connections to natural elements during migration.

These two rich and intense early experiences in artisanal filmmaking deepened her passion for documentary cinema. The condition of living beings, their sensitivity, and social bonds are central themes she seeks to explore. These films, shaped by powerful encounters and a spirit of sharing, affirm the filmmaker’s desire to continue capturing life on film.
