The Gig Is Up

Millions of people throughout the world find work for hire online. The working conditions are often dangerous and unfair. "The Gig Is Up" makes us realize that the magic of technology that we are being sold may be an illusion.

SYNOPSIS

From home-based meal delivery to VTC services, millions of people around the world are finding work to do online. The gig economy is worth more than five trillion USD worldwide, a figure that is constantly growing. However, little attention is paid to the stories of these workers who reveal the hidden side of this technological evolution. Who are these shadow workers? The Gig Is Up brings their stories to light. Seduced by the promise of independence and control over their working hours and income, workers around the world have had to face the harsh reality of this economy. Dangerous working conditions, unstable incomes, and the precariousness of their activities that can stop overnight in case of deactivation or bad grades. Through committed characters coming from the four corners of the world, this documentary makes us aware that the magic of technology that we are being sold is perhaps only an illusion.
