Cinéma Sous Les Étoiles Arrives in the Brome-Missisquoi MRC

For its 15th edition, Cinéma Sous Les Étoiles by Funambules Médias, known for its presence in Montreal parks, is pleased to announce a series of screenings in the Brome-Missisquoi MRC.

Montreal, June 3, 2024 – For its 15th edition, the Cinéma Sous Les Étoiles by Funambules Médias, known for its presence in Montreal parks, is pleased to announce a series of screenings in the Brome-Missisquoi MRC. The social, political, and environmental documentary film festival will take place in three municipalities in the region from August 2 to 16, 2024. Five free screenings will be presented in the cities of Cowansville, Sutton, and Bromont. Each film will be followed by discussions with filmmakers or specialists in the themes addressed.

QUEBEC PREMIERE OPENING FILM

Deep Rising (Matthieu Rytz, United States) | Quebec Premiere

Cinéma Sous Les Étoiles has chosen Cowansville to kick off its tour in the MRC with the documentary Deep Rising. Presented at the Sundance Film Festival last year, Deep Rising delves into one of the most overlooked industrial exploits of our century: deep-sea mining. Enhanced by breathtaking images of aquatic organisms, Deep Rising traces several decades of manipulations benefiting greedy corporations.

The screening will be preceded by a festive cocktail hour with beer sales and music.

QUEBECOIS AND ECOLOGICAL PROGRAMMING

For this first edition in the region, a selection of Quebec films as well as films with ecological themes have been highlighted.

FUNAMBULES MÉDIAS: PROMOTING SOCIAL CHANGE

Funambules Médias works towards the advent of a just and inclusive society through video production, training, and the dissemination of documentary cinema, by promoting citizen expression and the development of critical thinking. Its dissemination activities contribute to cultural outreach as well as raising awareness among populations on a wide range of environmental, socio-cultural, economic, and political issues, placing cultural mediation at the heart of its action.

The 15th edition of Cinéma Sous Les Étoiles will feature 49 screenings in Montreal, Longueuil, and the Brome-Missisquoi MRC.
