Recomposée

Raised in a white adoptive family, a young Métis filmmaker explores the internalized and normalized racism that surrounds her, in an emotional and introspective quest through which she seeks to recompose the identity and family puzzle that is hers.

SYNOPSIS

Adopted by a white family in Quebec, a young Métis filmmaker embarks on a quest to make peace with the abandonment of her Haitian mother, who died before they could be reunited. Haunted by unanswered questions and a deep sense of loss, she turns to family videos, the personal stories of other mixed-race women, and the testimonies of her family members to find the truths buried in the unsaid. Weaving the contours of the complexity of identity alienation, the director unveils to us a story with several layers, where love sometimes mixes with violence and the unsaid. Recomposée questions memory, racism and the invisible trace left by abandonment. Then emerges a poetic exploration where memory becomes resistance, where sometimes silence speaks louder than words and where abandonment leaves a mark that endures.
